Carolina Casuals is a well-loved tradition at UNC Kenan-Flagler. On Thursday afternoons, students, faculty and staff come together to unwind and enjoy good food and delicious beverages from Carolina Brewery.

Distributing a few hundred drinks in disposable cups each week adds up to a lot of waste. Members of the MBA Net Impact Club saw an opportunity to make a change and make an impact. The club partnered with UNC Kenan-Flagler administration to come up with a creative solution: reusable Carolina blue cups for students to bring with to the event each week.

The cups were debuted at a recent Net Impact-sponsored Carolina Casual event. Students were enthusiastic about the new cups and will bring them with pride to each future event – there have even been rumblings of a cup decoration party.

Cheers to Sustainable Carolina Casuals!

For those who forget to bring their cup, Carolina Brewery will be on hand to distribute replacement cups for $1 each. Profits from cup sales will benefit the Social Impact Fund, a new initiative that helps students use their business skills to make a long-term positive impact on the community.

The MBA Net Impact Club and UNC Kenan-Flagler are excited to have launched a program that not only reduces waste, but also reflects our school’s sustainability values. We hope the blue cup initiative will also help students think about other small decisions they can make that will have a big impact.

Cheers!
