Excellence across property types

OTO developmentUNC Kenan-Flagler welcomed Johnson Development Associates (JDA) and its affiliated companies, American Storage and OTO Development, to campus for a presentation and interviews.

Real estate professionals Geordy Johnson, Ben Graves, David Berry, Corry Oakes and Todd Turner treated a group of more than 35 students to a company overview and an introduction into development activities across the property types of multi-family, storage and hotel development. Attendees learned about the history, market-focus, recent initiatives and future plans of the companies, which are headquartered in Spartanburg, SC, and benefited from an interactive presentation that included various case studies.

Of particular interest to all students was a discussion surrounding a local project in Chapel Hill at West Rosemary Street and Church Street, where a planned OTO Development hotel fits neatly into a portfolio of developments in markets such as Manhattan (Penn Station, Times Square), Washington, D.C., Santa Monica, Paolo Alto, Fort Lauderdale and the Chicago Loop under Hilton, Marriott and Hyatt brands. We were curious to learn that a project which was initially pursued by a former UNC Kenan-Flagler student turned OTO Development employee as part of a development process class project has progressed towards realization over the last couple of years.

JDA and its affiliated companies have shown to be the innovative, market-leading companies that our students are excited to contribute to in their careers. With UNC Kenan-Flagler alums in prominent leadership positions, we are proud to be associated with these firms of the highest caliber and are looking forward to continuing the close relationships with Johnson Development, American Storage and OTO Development.
