When I first heard about the UNC Business Essentials program, I was skeptical. After weighing the pros and cons, I decided to complete the online program for two reasons – and I definitely made the right decision.
The first reason for completing the UBE program was to further my knowledge of business in addition to what I learned throughout college. The second was to use the program as a resume booster, because having an online business certificate from UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School on your resume is an easy talking point in an interview.
All students have to participate in some type of interview, whether it’s for an internship, full-time job or graduate school application. Like many students, I wasn’t really sure of what I wanted to do after graduation, and cast a wide net when the time came for me to apply for jobs. With that approach, I had to be prepared for any question or task that came my way. The UBE program modules were excellent preparation and provided me with case studies and real-world concepts I could apply during interviews. I always felt confident walking into interviews knowing I had completed the UNC Business Essentials program as preparation.
Even more impactful than the actual concepts of the program was that employers asked about it during interviews. The fact that I completed the program – in addition to school and work – really impressed them. It proved that I was willing to go above and beyond what was required of me to get results. A recruiter interviews hundreds of people, and having an online business certificate on your resume instantly separates you from the majority.
I will be working as a consultant after graduation, and I can confidently say that the UNC Business Essentials program not only helped me to get hired but will also help me throughout my career.
