Martha Hoelzer (UNC ’00) puts the fun in fundraising. As assistant director of alumni and student engagement at UNC Kenan-Flagler, it’s her job to connect with the Business School community and communicate the importance of giving back.
“If more people were to give back, we would be able to further enhance the student and alumni experience,” she says. And every contribution – no matter how large or small – helps make an impact. “Every member of the UNC Kenan-Flagler community has the ability to give back in some way.”
One of the most important aspects of Hoelzer’s job is to get the UNC Kenan-Flagler community excited about giving. For Hoelzer, it’s about more than just bringing in funds – it’s about what can be done with those funds.
If more people were to give back, the additional funds would help provide more financial support and opportunities for students, as well as enrich the alumni experience by making it possible to host more receptions and networking events in more cities and host larger events and conferences abroad.
Hoelzer encourages students and alumni to designate their gift to The Fund for UNC Kenan-Flagler, which allows the School to respond to immediate needs in a very flexible, tangible and efficient way. Gifts made to The Fund are used for a broad range of needs, from supporting study abroad programs to purchasing up-to-date technology for the School.
Nothing ignites the Carolina community quite like a little friendly competition – so when the J-School challenged the B-School to see which school could raise the most money and have the highest percentage of participation in the 2015 Undergraduate Class Campaign, Hoelzer and a team of student leaders sprang into action. The competition – which Hoelzer dubbed “100 Days of Giving” – is currently underway.
Now, an anonymous donor has upped the stakes by issuing a challenge of their own.
The first UNC Kenan-Flagler class – from any program – to reach 90 percent participation in giving to their class campaign will receive a $10,000 donation to their campaign. And if a UNC Kenan-Flagler class achieves 100 percent participation, the donor will give $25,000.
You can also purchase an engraved brick to leave your mark at UNC Kenan-Flagler.
